Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
I learned about Kaki King from a friend of mine during the summer before 'Until We Felt Red...' was released. She insisted I listen to Kaki's music. Initially, I was taken aback by the falsettos of some of the songs on UWFR. It wasn't until I listened to her older material that I started enjoying the new sounds. I quite enjoy the soundscape kk's been creating lately.

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
I've been thinking long and hard about this because i couldny believe that i didnt remember how i got into her....
I`ve come up with a good story that i think its how it happened: the thing is that I really like womens voices in song beter than a man`s, so i went all over the intener looking for woman-singing bands (sleater kinney, the breeders, pj harvey, the go! team, the duke spirit etc) and i guees in that crazy search period i found kaki, and i must say is the best of all....

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
Wow. It was dangerously close to five years ago now. I saw her play "Close Your Eyes and You'll Burst Into Flames" on Late Night with Conan O'Brien just on a whim; and I fell in love. Completely and uttered floored by it, and I've been obsessing ever since.

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
So one day I'm sitting on the internet going through my Flickr photos and friends' pictures, and all the while I was on the phone with an old friend of mine from North Carolina who is now a painter and makes some really pretty paintings, collages and things and we get to talking about music and I told her that I was sick and tired of all the "smut" I had been listening to and needed something new and exciting in my ears. Granted this was only a month ago I think. So the name "Kaki King" comes out of her mouth and she demanded that I look her up right then and there. I looked her up on youtube because it is one of the easiest ways to listen to music nowadays without having to leave the room, and I don't think I was able to utter another word after putting on the first video I saw, which was Playing With Pink Noise. My friend told me some songs that she thought I'd like but I honestly couldn't remember them and still can't. Now I just own all her CDs and I don't get enough. It has even changed the way I look at the guitar (even though I am in now way shape or form as good as kaki is and Hell I doubt I'll get anywhere near that level. The amount of talent that pours out of her fingertips floors my jaw. Long Live Kaki King.

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
In my hotel room in Austin. She was on some news program and I was like ohh, Cool! But sadly I didn't have any means in Austin at the time to dig deeper and learn more so when I got home it remained in the back of my mind... Then I saw her on the Con dvd with Tegan and Sara and decided to type her name into my Zune marketplace to see if she had any of her own stuff and viola! Same thing with most bands I like now really. I find out about them or see a music video but forget about it to only come back to it a year later or something!

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
Mine was very similar to the above. I'm pretty sure Fate itself wanted me to fall in love with Kaki's music. A friend I used to have who I barely talked to then anyway talked to me online the day after he saw Kaki perform Close Your Eyes & You'll Burst Into Flames on Conan. He was very adamant that I listen to anything of hers, so I downloaded the only song I could find (at the time) which was Everybody Loves You. I really liked the song, but since I couldn't find anything else, her name fell away from my mind. Then, this year just days before the release of Dreaming of Revenge, Kaki's video for Pull Me Out Alive was on youtube's front page. I remembered her name and her amazing guitar skills and watched the video. I absolutely loved the song and was floored at the direction her musical career had evidently traversed since I first heard her. As quickly as I could, I got all 4 of her albums and listened to nothing else for weeks. And, I guess, I still barely listen to much else at times...

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
I won a quiz on the dutch tv music program vrije geluiden. The question was: "How old was Kaki King when she started playing the guitar"
Two weeks later "Until we felt red" was in my postbox and since then we are hooked to her music.
Here are the video's of that particulair tv program.

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
I love the groovemaster videos! Their rendition of Yellowcake was excellent. It's so typical though, that the host is so focused on the technique. Kaki and Jan are like, the technique isn't the important/original. I feel like people get too distracted by the flashier techniques she uses sometimes. Although I guess it's whatever, though--I started listening to her stuff after seeing Playing w/Pink Noise on youtube, haha. I quickly found that I liked the rest of the album better though. End rant here.
Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
Well I first started listening to Justin King and though his style was really awesome, then last year when I was on a plane coming back from holiday, Russell Howard was interviewing her on Virgin Radio I think it was.
He played a track of hers (I think it was bone chaos in the castle I cant remember) and I was like JESUS this woman is brilliant! as soon as I got home I managed to get hold of dreaming of revenge, and I was blown away by its awesomenesss
at first I thought she was related to Justin King haha but then after some research found out that she wasn't :3 so there started the Kaki obsession

Re: How Did You Discover Kaki?
Justin King....kind of annoys me. He has some cool tracks like Knock on Wood or whatever, but I don't think that they're on Kaki's level in terms of composition. Plus his band is...well, pretty bad--no offense! It's cool if you like him; I'm just sayin' he's not really my cup of tea.
Dreaming of Revenge is awesome.
