battles (post-rock/math-rock band with lots of pedals...)
someone showed me this vid a coupla days ago. they broke up in '07 but still pretty tight.
Re: battles (post-rock/math-rock band with lots of pedals...)
thats actually the ONLY track by them that i like
i discovered them some time ago on a mixtape. There's this dude called Shankly. Who does monthly mixtapes with indie and dance music since 2006. Pretty tight stuff most of the time. And it's like a 6 CD's in one mixtape thing every month!
just sayin...

idk i got the rest of mirrored and it was pretty good--'atlas' is by far my fav. track though.

The Battles' guitarist, Ian Williams (guitarist of Don Caballero, as well) is a great loopist and has extraordinary technical skills. He uses two RC-20 loopers at the same time, which is really difficult, because these pedals don't communicate through a midi connection. Therefore, one must have a very good sense of timing in order to use them simultaneously. Anyway, can't say that math-rock is my cup of tea!
By the way, they still perform together. Their on tour right now

yeah i heard that he was in don cabellero...i've never really listened to them , but that's one of those bands that's on my list to check out. there is too much music haha.

This band is fantastic. A little left of field on first listen, but the intricacies of rhythm and oddly catchy hooks really leave you feeling recharged. The chipmunk voice took me a while to get used to, but hey it grows! In my opinion, the mark of good music is when each listen brings something new to love to your attention. This is full of it. Listen, it's a new experience!

i have mixed feelings about battles. i like them, but i also don't think i'd ever really listen to them. they're fantastic musicians. i've heard from friends that their live show is pretty amazing too.
Re: battles (post-rock/math-rock band with lots of pedals...)
also, i have a ton of don caballero on my itunes that i rarely listen to.

I love Battles. I found out that my philosophy professor last semester dated one of the guys from Battles and I just about flipped out. Don't know which one though unfortunately.

Some time ago, a friend gave me a shitload of music to listen to & I delayed checking out about 3/4's of it because I couldn't stop listening to Battles!
They are! (Seen them 3 times) & they are beyond tight, but still allow for experimenting/improv.
