Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
great artist.
she's brilliant.
as well as her work in metric.
her songs are so haunting, and depressing, in the best way ever.

Re: Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
Weird..i was just going to post a thing about Metric. lol
Listen to the song Poster of a Girl. For some Reason the chorus reminds me of kaki king's Hardenburg from the Day Sleeper EP. It just has the same weird spacey feel to it. I dunno. Maybe Im just crazy . lol

Re: Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
i don't really listen to live it out.

it just doesn't stand.

Re: Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
emily haines is so good.
i wrote a movie script that i wish i could make real.
btw, its very short and not detailed at all.
Synopsis:
Emily Haines is a waitress in a diner off of Route 93 in Nevada.
Desert and distant mountains are seen all around.
It's literally in the middle of nowhere, yet people come to eat along the way.
Emily has been working at this diner since her parents died, and her boss,
John (no last name) has taken her in. She has been working at the Diner since
age 17. The diner is all she knows, it's her life.
The strange series of events that occur at this diner are set exclusively to
the solo album of Emily Haines, "Knives Don't Have Your Back".
-introduction & credits-
Scenes of Emily and John working, taking orders, cooking, people eating, etc.
John: "Emily, come take this out."
Emily: -Grab trash bag, take it to a metal trash bin on outside of diner-
1. "Our Hell"
hectic orders, emily sweating, heat in the diner, mirages in distance
sun beating down on her, stress, fryer boiling, emily dreams, of las vegas,
which is only a drive away. Snaps back to reality, she's just a small town
waitress, she finishes orders.
2. "Doctor Blind"
taking orders for cops, and a pecuilar old man with circle glasses.
spills coffee on the man, by accident, a blue and red pill falls out of pocket,
lands still on the floor, the man has a heart attack, ambulance is called.
3. "Crowd Surf Off A Cliff"
a very young handsome gentleman comes into the diner, seems troubled.
emily is very interested, winds figer around phone cord, watching him read
a book. she sees a picture of her only love, sitting in her cubby, thinks
about how love has hurt her before, and she realizes it's too risky to get
involved ever again. she imagines herself falling, jumping off a cliff.
landing in an red ocean. the man orders a lunch, leaves the diner, leaving
his coffee cup untouched.
4. "Detective Daughter"
a mother and her daughter enter the diner and sit at a booth.
the girl is dressed similar to a young spy, like sherlock holmes.
emily thinks of her childhood, how she wishes it were better, and that
shes stuck in a diner for the rest of her days, until she dies, husband-less.
a scene of child emily under a table, looking at long skirts, confusion.
5. "The Lottery"
the definite daydream of emily, daydreams of her winning it big,
bringing back the cash from las vegas, and making her and her adopted father's lives better. she wins big, and she lets go. at end, snaps back to reality, she seems alone in this diner, now neon lit. it's now evening, darker, emily is exhausted, but she has water.
6. "The Maid Needs A Maid"
emily is exhausted, more than usual, this day has been a mess for her, and shes haunted by the dissapointment she recieves from her 'father'. she wishes there was someone else that could relate to her, working there with her.
she is all alone, and she eventually knows it's for the best, live alone and no one gets hurt.
7. "Mostly Waving"
a fight breaks out between emily and john, she eventually storms off in her car, down route 93 to Las Vegas...
8. "Reading In Bed"
emily is playing slots, and she is trying to enjoy herself, but she just can't help it, she sees many people on the streets, doing drugs, shes glad that she does have a place to belong, and she leaves the streets, to her car.
9. "Nothing & Nowhere"
she leaves Las Vegas, winning nothing, and runs out of gas right before the interstate, right at the 'welcome to las vegas' sign. she must walk, and she does just so. it's a long walk, and the desert has cooled, the full moon. thinks of how weird her life was, and is.
10. "The Last Page"
she walks the rest of the way, creeped out by screeching from the desert, and walking alone in the dark night, she runs once she sees the diner in the distance.
11. "Winning"
she enters the neon lit outside of the diner. she walks in the lights are off, the place is trashed, blood is on the windows, and john is sprawled against the counter, a knife sticking out of his back. emily grabs a knife, and heads toward the back of the diner, to see if anyone is still there. terror. she is stabbed in the back of the head, and she collapses, magically into flowers and dollar bills, laying there, with a smile on her face, her afterlife.
